Double Match Day Recap: U11s and U13s Show Heart in Testing Matches

Richard Lucas23 Mar - 12:29

Heart and resiliance

It was a morning of highs and learning moments for the Diamonds Netball Academy, as both the Under 11 and Under 13 teams took to the court for back-to-back fixtures.

U11s: Diamonds vs. Futures — 13-21 Loss

The U11 Diamonds fell to a 21-13 defeat against Futures in what was a shock result for a team that has looked strong all season. With several key players missing, the team couldn’t quite find their usual spark — but every player on court gave it their all.

There were standout performances despite the result:

• Florence Short was named Player of the Match by the Futures coaching team.
• Georgie Fuggle earned Players’ Player for her energy and determination.
• Missy, playing up two years above her age group, was awarded Coach’s Player after a fearless and composed display that belied her age.

We’re hoping for more consistent availability after Easter, which will no doubt help the team regain its rhythm and return to winning ways.

U13s: Diamonds vs. Falcons — 17-30 Loss

The U13s also faced a tough opponent in Falcons and came away with a 30-17 loss. Again, a few key players were unavailable, which put extra pressure on those stepping in. Still, the girls played with heart and showed true team spirit, particularly in a strong final quarter where they matched Falcons goal for goal.

Highlights from the match include:
Players of the Match (selected by Falcons): Izzy Parker and Pia
Players’ Player (tie): Bella and Annabelle
Coach’s Player: Annabelle, who had an outstanding all-around game and netted her first goals at Goal Attack in the final quarter — a real high point for the team.

Silly mistakes in the early stages of the match allowed the Falcons to pull ahead, but the effort shown late in the game was something to build on.

Looking Ahead

With the Easter break approaching, the focus will be on regrouping, refining key areas in training, and returning with full squads ready to push forward. The desire, determination, and team chemistry are there — now it’s just about consistency.
